CHICANE
‘Gritty, well visualized, and holds no punches’

A powerful, locally produced short film showcasing the destabilising effects of drugs on two boys' lives.

After a long day of smoking joints and falling asleep at his sketchpad, Danny receives a phone call from his good friend Shaun. He tells Danny to get ready for a big night out, and while Danny is a little reluctant, Shaun comes over, and they end up hitting the road together.

On their way to town, they pass by Garths house. Garth is a local dealer, one of the most well known in the area. Shaun attempts to score some drugs from Garth, but when the purchase goes wrong, we see tragedy escalate, and both Shaun and Danny’s lives taking a turn for a worse. It’s in this context, with an intense trance backing track, that we see this tragedy run its course. Fortunately, it doesn’t end there though, and the film ventures on to explore issues of redemption and freedom.

Ultimately, Chicane gives us a mature message that is not simply anti drugs, but provides a reason as to the destructive nature behind our desires for happiness and permanency.
